Tips for getting started with a plant-based diet
1
Substitute:
Use substitutes to make the change easier
2
Eat enough:
The vegan diet is often healthier and has fewer calories. So make sure your calorie-intake doesn't drop too low.
3
Don't make it too difficult
Don't be too hard on yourself and don't punish yourself if you eat something non-vegan. Simply accept it & continue your plant-based diet.
Plant-based vs. animal nutrition

The average consumption of meat today in industrialized countries is around 80 kilograms per person per year. In the USA it is even 100 kg per person and year. Meat usually comes from large livestock farms where animals are not kept in a species-appropriate manner. Cattle, pigs and poultry emit greenhouse gases that contribute significantly to climate degradation. Greenhouse gases are not only produced during husbandry, but also during the production of animal feed. Huge areas of land are needed. The deforestation and, above all, the utilisation of the land leads to a decline in biodiversity and the destruction of important CO2 reservoirs.

How do I substitute certain animal-based food products?

Yoghurt
Vegan alternatives to classic yoghurt are plant-based alternatives, e.g. soya, coconut, almond or oat-based yoghurt.

Cream
Many supermarkets already offer a choice of soya, oat or cashew cream.

Cheese
Parmesan cheese made from cashews and walnuts is already available for sprinkling, and nutritional yeast is a good choice for oven dishes.
